Objective The increasing clinical application of orthopaedic surgical robots has raised new technical requirements for surgeons. At present, there are insufficient research reports on the training effects of orthopaedic surgical robot technology. This study intends to explore the short-term effects of orthopaedic surgical robot training through a cross-sectional survey. Methods From September 27, 2019 to November 1, 2019, the orthopaedic surgeons who attended the training courses of orthopedic surgery robots were investigated in the form of electronic questionnaires for their acquirement including actual mastery of the course, individual improvement, department promotion, hospital development and overall enhancement. Single factor analysis was performed using χ2 test or Fisher's exact test to assess whether trainee’s age, gender, educational backgrounds, professional titles and training forms were related to the excellent rate of the overall score. Results A total of 115 questionnaires were collected in this survey. The orthopaedic surgeons included in the survey were from 14 provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities directly under the central government, with an average age of 39.7 ± 7.9 years. In terms of professional titles, senior and intermediate titles took up 57.4% (66/115) and 33% (38/115), respectively; professionally, spinal surgeons occupied the most (50.4%), followed by traumatologists (36.5%). The main ways to attend the training were: lecture (87%), model operation (87%), corpse specimen operation (38.3%), surgical observation (59.1%) and surgical operation (12.2%). The median total score of the respondents was 130 (115,141) and the excellent rate was 66.1%. The results of single factor analysis showed that there was no clear correlation between the age, gender, educational backgrounds, professional titles, training methods and the excellent rate of the overall score.ConclusionsThe training of orthopaedic surgical robots has obvious short-term effects and universality as trainees can master relevant theoretical knowledge and practical skills through this training, which can help promote the development of scientific research and expand the publicity of the hospitals and individuals.
